weee :)
Right before church
Lauren and I at the plaza today, outside of the movie theatre.
.
We're gonna host a christmas party here for good friends of the family tomorrow, so I'll try to take photos! But most of the crowd consists of Garry's coll workers from the firefighter station and their family, so it might be a bit scary for me to take pictures, heheee...Well, im gonna go ahead and continue to listen to my cheesy taste of eurovision song contest songs, right now its molitva all the way here (haha i know you're laughing now Huma).

Merry Christmas everyone

Isn't Lauren Bass sweet? We made the poster together and I bought flowers for my mom so everything was ready when she came :) Lauren wanted to paint my moms favorite animal, but I was on my way to go to the restroom upstairs (was about to pee in my pants you know) so when she asked about it she screamed so I could hear her, so I screamed back "her favorite animal is dog!!!" When I was done and took a look at the poster she had painted a duck, cute as she is.

I can't tell you guys how happy I am to see my mom! I have to admit that there was some tears of joy. Yesterday we went to the big shoppingmall together and bought the last presents that remained. And last night we all watched mamma mia! We have been making ginger bred house this morning, here's some pictures of it:

Lauren and I are very proud!! look how we got the icestickles hanging down from the roof, yeep.

Thank you for beatiful christmas cards and letters that I've recieved in the mail and through my mom. I read them all this morning , it made my day.
I wish you a merry christmas, and a happy new year with a lot great moments in the future shared with me, of course!! I can't wait to see you. Keep on treating your friends and family the best during this holiday, cause that's what its all about, right? :)

Now the sky could be blue, I don't mind. Without you it's a waste of time.
Happy holidays and lots of love,
Mariell.

Chiefs game

Yes, that's right! I am going to the Chiefs game in like two hours while I am waiting for my mom to come. I am going with Dani, Max and Shane, should be fun and very cold, even though I still don't understand the rules. Chiefs is like the pro leaguge American football team for Kansas State, so today we're playing against Miami Dolphins.

The time will hopefully fly while I am there, so when I come home I just have to rush to the airport to get my mom :) everything is ready.

Breakfast tiiiime, oatmeal is on the menu (havregrot).
Christmas love,
Mariell.

If you love me, won't you let me know

Guess what I am doing right noow? It's going in the mailbox at the post office tomorrow! Hopefully they'll come through across the Atlantic ocean before Christmas!

This week is all about Finals, I have two finals every day from wednesday to friday, so wish me luck :)

This past weekend was fun!! I went to the Lancers basketball game on friday with Dani Miller, then I went to her house with Luke and Elliot. I managed to buy some christmas gifts on saturday, can't write what I bought cause someone that I know might read it :)

I am gonna clean and get everything ready for when my mom comes on sunday! Only 6 days left, I can't believe it! I still don't know how I have survived without her for 5 months. I guess I am more independent than I thought I was.

How good is it to have a family that care so much to send me lots of christmas food!? (not the clementines though, heh)

And yes, ricepudding is on the menu for Ms. Eikhovd, agian. So I gotta go!
I miss you, hugs -
Mariell.

Christmas events

Time for some updating here. Im sorry that I haven't updated for a while, it's just been so much going on lately; homework, choir concert, christmas shopping, scandinavian dinner etc. Some fun and some that's been really boring, yes I am talking about homework.. well, Im doing alright - only two weeks left until I see mom!

I guess I have to tell you more about the scandinavian christmas dinner! That was a funny thing, I brought Shelbi as my "free" guest, we ate sweedish meatballs, salmon, real boiled potatos, lusekatter( luzycats, I dont know..? hehe), surkal and so on. a great meal!! So I finally met up with norwegian speaking people, and I gotta tell ya, norwegian is getting hard! But anyways, we were placed at different tables with old people that has scandinavian relatives, which was not that fun because the evenning went to talking about world war 2 with oldies, fun fun... Eventually we gathered with the teens, Shelbi even practiced her norwegian! a very proud big sis here :)

We are watching Narnia now, which reminds me of the time before I left home. Siri tried to convince me to watch it with her, but then she went to Greece, so it was Elsebeth who eventually got me into it. I am half way now, and I gotta tell ya - I haven't met anyone who can beat or take my beloved friends place, you're stick with me no matter what :)

Closing up with a couple pictures from the weekend;

Shell and I before the holiday concert on thursday
Family Bass attending a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens on Friday
We also celebrated Sankta Lucia at the Scandinavian dinner, here you see some of the girls - luckely not me, hehe

Mariell.

Freetime, finally

Isn't my mom a cutie? :)

I am counting down for christmas, even though it's my first thanksgiving now. But i couldn't help getting the christmas spirit when my mom sent me this in the mail, thank you so much!

We're gonna eat turkey tomorrow, cause Garry is working today, and on saturday we'er going over to Shelbi's aunt in Missouri to eat more turkey! oh yeah this is a food holiday for sure.

My first free day off went to eating risengrynsgrot! yummiiii! An American girl named Elsebeth has been in Norway as an exchangestudent, so she showed me a German and Scandinavian store here where we can buy porrigde and a lots of other Norwegian stuff! I still have some leftovers for lunch today, muy bien. I also went to oakpark mall yesterday, looking for christmas presents, but I ended up buying some stuff to myself, hehe.

documenting after my first buy of a pair of levis jeans

Me before a so called "date" with John. Take a close look at my scarf, my beatiful girlfriend gave it to me :)

Im gonna update soon agian with thanksgiving pics.
Hugs and kisses,
Mariell.

Future calendar

Good morning friends and family!

After a long and busy week at school I deserved some freetime without homework, so Shelbi took me to go and see Twilight. Every girl in the hole nation here is crazy about the books. It's kinda Harry Potter style, only for girls, and it's about Vampire stuff. I've read 40 pages of the book, (you know me, would rather use time watching an episode of one tree hill for the hundredth time instead of reading a book with 600 pages, hehe) so I thought the movie was going to be boring.. BUT, it wasn't! a lot of "we can't be together love, but we still are cause we belong together, blabla" and WHO cannot like that? especially not me :)

Im a big listmaker, so here's a "look forward to calendar". Sometimes it can be good to have one whenever you're missing the one's you love.

  1. Sun, November 23rd - Going to Missouri for a daytrip
  2. Wed, November 26th-30th - Thanksgiving, off from school for 5 days!
  3. Mon, December 1st - Countdown to Christmas
  4. Thur, December 4th -Christmas concert
  5. Sun, December 6th - Christmas banquet for Scandinavian students
  6. Sun, December 21st - Mom's coming!!
  7. Wed, December 24th - Christmas eve
  8. Thur, December 25th - Christmas day
  9. Wed, December 31st - New years eve
  10. Fri, February 13th - Lene-Mari is coming!!
  11. Wed, Frebruary 25th - Hawaii
  12. Thur, March 12th - Maybe choirtrip to Nashville, Tennessee
  13. Mon, March 16th -Spring break!
  14. Sat, May 9th - Prom
  15. Sat, May 16th - Mom and Grandma is coming!
  16. Wed, May 20th - Graduation day

yes sir, the agenda for today is homework, cause I don't have time tomorrow. Tonight I'll probably hang out with the buddies.

Take care,

Mariell.

The Coldplay concert

I have no words, nothing to say expect from one word; brilliant :)

Pictures from the great evening:
Girlie's on their way to eat Italian food
I had a good tomato salad with lots of mozarella! that reminded me of Siri and Berit, hihi

Concert pics;

Opening song; Lovers in Japan.
Do you know the feeling when you get a sudden rush from your stomach, and you have to grab someone's hand to make sure that you're actually there, in that specific moment? A moment that you could never believe would actually occur. Your eyes become teary without even noticing it, and when the moment is over you have to stop and think and ask yourself of what just happened..(?) You want to relive the moment, but you can't. You're just hoping strongly that another one will arrive soon again.
The Scientist
Apparently they'd planed to move from the stage and into the audience, so as you can see, Shelbi and I were the lucky one's!

Viva la vida
Extra number; Yellow
Goose bumbs during the hole show, especially during Green eyes and Fix you. Yes dang it, this is how life is suppose to be.
You know I love you so,
Mariell.

Sick

It's been a rough week so far with sickness and a lot of homework. I was home from school today so I've basically just been sleeping all day and drinking tee whenever I woke up. Two positive things though, I went to Maik's birthday dinner yesterday (exchange student from Germany) and it was really nice! His hostparents made his favorite dish; schnitzel!! I couldn't taste anything cause my nose was completly blocked, I don't know if that was a bad or a good thing...haha! The other thing is that I've had the chance to talk to my friends, more than I usual do, so that makes me very happy :)

im closing up here with a picture of Lauren making her favorite drink; hot chocolate!

Mariell.

I voted

As you know, this is the last day to vote for the exciting election! And me, as a student, could vote at my school (just to see what the students would vote for if we had the option to do it). I did it mostly to get the sticker so I can go to starbucks and get a free coffee or a donut, haha! But like, I've learned a bunch of new learnings from being here during the election! And living with an republican family have taught me more about the republican view on certain topics, and I can see more from both sides now. But I have to say, my vote still goes to Senator Barack Obama. It's gonna be nice when the election finally is over, im sure im not the only one who thinks that.

9 days left to the Coldplay concert, 47 days left for me to see my beloved mom.
Talk to you later,
Mariell.

Halloween and a choir concert

October month is over and I'm heading in to my fourth month here in the U.S.

Thursday; choir concert

Fun as alsways, but also a little nerve-racking sometimes.

Halloweeeen;

Haha, I just start laughing when I see these pictures. oh well, as you can see we both dressed up as cute dolls! Shelbi went over to Kelsey's and I went to Louise's and had fun there! Stephen and John came and picked me up eventually to go to another Halloween party at the twins house. It was costumes of everything from spice girls, to a banana, to shaggy from scooby doo! I didn't take pictures at the parties so I can show you now, but im sure that someone will send me pictures later from it.
.
Family Bass is gonna hook up with some family friends today for lunch, we're gonna eat indian food which I am very ecited about consider that Im not a huge fan of the american food here.. Then Gloria is gonna drop me off at Town center so I can buy some jeans and warm sweatshirts. We'll see what's going on tonight, I am invited to another Halloween party tonight with Dani Miller so I might do that.
.
Well, Im gonna try to call Huma again and then my mom,
A big blown kiss for you all,
Mariell

I've been so happy lately!! I'll soon be seeing my favorite person in the whole world! hihi

To update recent event; black and white suprise party for Tim! I didn't really know the guy - I thought, I eventually found out that he is in my American History class, hehe. Amilia rented a location here to suprise him. A bunch of people showed up so we all suprised him big time.

Dani, Sanne, Amilia and another girl (can't remember her name)
We've been cleaning the hole house today for Halloween, but we took a break to go and watch high school musical 3!! I loved it, childish as I am, hihi. John is taking me to dinner tonight, so I better get going to get ready. He's a nice guy so it should be fun!
Take care,
Mariell

Spirit week and Homecoming

Finally back on track here! Garry just fixed the network, hehe and you know me; I ran straight to the computer - addicted as I am. Well, there's been so much fun going on so I'm just gonna start of and show pictures and write a long with it.

LANCERS PARADE:
Students from my school who wants to be in the army, 50-50 boys and girls.

Shawnee Mission East was celebrating our 50 anniversary! So we had a big parade close by our school. Every grade had made their own float and they dressed up as decades from the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. There was a float party at thursday, but a girl I know surely had to study for a big spanish test, heh - geek as I am. This was a nice ending of our spirit week, we dressed up differently every day (sports theme, colors day, the 80s, color clash, Lancers clothing). It was music all over school in between classes from decades in the past, so fun!

LABSTER SELLING FOR VOLUNTERS:
YES IT'S ALIVE!! hahah, I was so freakin' proud! Every year the exchange students help Shawnee Mission East to sell labsters for people so we can raise money for our school. So saturday morning I woke up 7.30 am. to sell those jukky creatures! I carried at least 5 of them (there was about 50 labsters there, and we sold all of them, I know it sounds weird, haha) It was a hilarious moment, I mean - I've only seen living labster at Ica or Meny in Norway in a fish tank! haha

Dale holding the labster way too close, it's discusting haha
Exchange students and American students selling the labsteeers
HOMECOMING:
- Before the dance

Shelbi and I had so much fun dressing up, I can't remember the last time I was so excited about a event.
My hair after being styled at the hair saloon. I've always done my hair self, so it was fun to not do it this time!
Me waiting for Drew, hihi
Shelbi and I in the backyard, she's gorgeous!!
-Pictures taken before our fancy dinner
My homecoming group! (click on the pictures if you want to see 'em closer)
Tha gyaaals

-The dance
Me and Drew at the dance! He was such a fun date to have. I've never met a guy who puls my chair out when I want to sit or opens the car door for me. I definitely was treated like a princess for a day.

- After the homecoming dance

Me, Grace and Margaret
we all went to drew's and had fun there, hehe! Then I spent the night at Mary's

Drew and I agaaain

Homecoming was more fun than I thought it would be! Next time it's mine turn to ask a guy for a school dance here, that's gonna be interesting haha. Let me know if you have a cute way for me to ask!

okidokismoki, I'm going to take a shower and then go to bed!
Miss you all, hugs and kisses,
Mariell.
